Advisers To Trump Plan 2026 Convention

WASHINGTON—President Trump’s advisers are considering Las Vegas as the location for the GOP’s midterm political convention next year, people involved in the discussions said, as Republicans seek to preserve their narrow majority in Congress.
Trump has told aides that the convention would be a forum to highlight Republican congressional candidates and incumbents, as well as his own record as president, the people said.
Political conventions, where party delegates from around the country formally nominate their presidential candidates, usually take place during presidential election years. Democrats held midterm conventions in the 1970s and 1980s.
The president’s advisers are weighing other locations, including Texas and Washington, D.C., the people involved in the discussions said.
The convention would be held close to the kickoff of early voting in next year’s elections, the people involved in discussions said. Trump wants to replicate a smaller version of the entertainment-heavy nominating convention held for him last summer in Milwaukee, an event that saw Hulk Hogan tear off his shirt to reveal one bearing Trump’s name and a performance by Kid Rock.
The idea of a midterm national convention was first floated by Democrats. Ken Martin, chairman of the Democratic National Committee, promoted the prospect of one at a party meeting in late August. Trump weighed in the next day with his own proposal. A DNC spokeswoman declined to comment on the party’s plans.
